How you can Apply Sunscreen According To A Pale Person

These aren't the times when mothers put butter on burns and beach bums tanned with aluminum foil in their sides. We know just a little better. But there's always more we can do in order to prevent sun damage, therefore we enlisted a pale person to advise us.

  1. Buy makeup and moisturizers with sunscreen inside them! It's an easy way to wear some everyday sun-protection, but unless it's at least SPF 15, it will be isn't enough on its own.

  3. Lip balm: lips are sensitive to burns and easily overlooked, so invest in one by having an SPF of 30 or higher.

  5. Don't hold back until you're in the sun. It is best to apply about 50 % an hour before you go out. Reapply at least every 2 hours.
  6. UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. so plan your swim-hours accordingly.
  7. This one's a no-brainer: avoid tanning beds and sunlamps. They're just as dangerous because the sun in terms of cancer and long-term skin damage.
  8. Know your label!
    1. Buy broad spectrum, meaning a sunscreen that offers both Ultraviolet protection. (UVB causes burns, but UVA can also be damaging towards the structure and health of the epidermis.)
    2. The SPF number is the degree of protection the sunscreen provides against UVB rays. While a higher SPF number means more protection, the higher you go, the slimmer the difference becomes. SPF 15 filters out about 93 percent of UVB rays. SPF 30 filters out about 97 percent, compared to SPF 50's 98 percent. SPF 100 filters about 99 percent.
    3. Any SPF below 15 only protects against sunburn, leaving the skin open to cancer of the skin and aging.
    4. Water resistant does not necessarily mean waterproof. However, no sunscreen in the world is waterproof. So if you will be swimming or sweating, reapply often.
